Top 5 to experience Neustadt like a local

We think that one of the best ways to discover a city is by doing like the locals do. Skip the tourist traps, don’t fall for terrible pizza places and definitely don’t buy a fridge magnet saying ‘I love Dresden’.

Because TSH is your home away from home, we’ve written a quick guide to feel like a local in one of the city’s most exciting neighborhoods — Neustadt. You don’t want to wait in line or deal with hordes camera-flashing tourists — so instead, these are the places where real Dresdners hang out.

Alaunplatz

It’s a beautiful green space in the heart of the city — what else do we need to say? This is where you meet up with friends for a beer on a summer afternoon or go for a stroll in a snow-covered winter wonderland. Have fun people watching, relax and enjoy nature for a hot second.

Kunsthofpassage

This open air museum-meets-diagon alley is a quiet bubble in a rowdy neighborhood, filled with quirky design shops and impressive art murals. Its five courtyards are full of hidden nooks and crannies, making it the perfect place to get lost for a little bit.

Altes Wettbüro

We don’t know what we love more about this place — the funky, friendly vibe or the incredible menu. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking to have a quick lunch or an extensive three-course meal, this is where you go to tame your appetite.

Street art

All around Neustadt you’ll find incredible street art that’s best appreciated while biking around on your TSH bike. It’s easy enough to spot them just by roaming around the streets at random, but if you’re serious about seeing as much art as you can make sure to check out this crowdsourced map.

Bars

After a long day of experiencing the thrills of Neustadt nothing beats hanging around in the Alaunsstraße and Louisenstraße. This part of the area shines brightest at night, and for good reason — there’s tons of amazing bars and clubs to check out. Some of the best include WohnzimmerSide Door and Katy’s Garage — but you’re bound to find some great places just by walking around.
